Descriptive Statistics Explained
Descriptive statistics summarize a dataset with a small set of measures. This calculator computes the most important ones: mean (average), median (middle value), mode (most frequent), range, and both population and sample standard deviations. Paste or type in a list of numbers separated by commas and get instant results.
Standard deviation is particularly useful — it tells you how spread out values are around the mean. A low standard deviation means values cluster tightly; a high one means they're more dispersed. Use the sample standard deviation (s) when your dataset is a sample from a larger population; use population standard deviation (σ) when you have all the data. Everything runs locally in your browser.
